'ANSEARCHIN" NEWS, Winter 1995
FAMILY FINDINGS: Giles-Webb Bible Awaits Rightful Heirs
"The remains of an old Bible -- with family record pages from twoother Bibles stuck inside -- caught the eye of R.W. Harris of Pensacola,FL., when he and his wife stopped at an antique shop in Mississippi justout of Memphis. Written in beautiful penmanship in front of the Biblewas the inscription, "Ellen Douglas Henry from Aunt Eliza... Ellenbower,Virginia, November 7th, 1864."
The pages stuck inside the Bible listed births, deaths, andmarriages for the Giles and Webb families. The names meant nothing toHarris, but still he hated to see the information going to waste and therecords eventually being destroyed. So he decided to purchase the Bibleand see if he could locate the present-day descendants. The antique shopowner told Harris he had a box of other family memorabilia -- so Harristook that, too.
It contained some 40 or 50 letters, family photographs, locks ofhair, and even a linen certificate issued by the Medical Board ofExaminers to Dr. Edwin Webb in the District of Columbia in 1896..." (Letit be noted here that Gigi Crow, found this article/information, andcontacted Mr. Harris).
Mr. Harris could not locate where he had placed the originalmaterial that he bought in the Antique store (abt. 1986-1988), but hadmade copies of some of the material. He sent the copies to Gigi who inturned scanned them and sent them to me. I therefore now have in mypossession, copies of the Bible page entries for births, marriages, anddeaths, a copy of Ellen Douglas Webb's Nursing Cert., and a Copy ofEdwin Webbs medical cert. Should anyone desire a copy of this materialthey can e-mail me at stuart@@ortrackm.missouri.org requesting copies.Mary Stuart June 1, 2007)
