John Gilliam was born about 1663 in Prince George, Virginia. His parents are John Gilliam and his mother, Margaret Henshaw.
John married about 1699 in Virginia a "Ann." She has been traditionally given as Ann Bathurst.
Their son John Gilliam was born on 2 May 1713 in Bristol Parish, Virginia. Their daughter, Elizabeth Gilliam, was born on 16 Jan 1716 in Bristol Parish, Virginia.[1]
This John should not be confused with the John Gilliam of Surry, son of Hinchea Gilliam and Fortune who married a Sarah and left a Will naming children dated 1738.
It has been suggested by historian, Charles Edgar Gilliam, that a generation existed between John ( -1673) & Margary and this John ( -1739) & Ann.
The John Gilliam, JR, below supports the existence of John Gilliam of age in 1702
Dragoons
1701/02 • Charles City County, VA
Joseph Wynn, Capt of Dragoons. His company includes Francis Mabery, John Gillum Jr., Thomas and Edward Parram [Parham], Ralph Jackson[2]
Southside Virginia Genealogies by John W Pritchett John Gilliam, identified as the brother of Elizabeth Maybury in her 1713 will, received a gun from the estate of Thomas Bridges in 1673. John did not appear in the Surry County tithables, 1668-1700, and was evidently living in that part of Charles City County that became Prince George County in 1702. Indeed as John Gilliam Jr. he was serving in a company of dragoons in Charles City County in 1701. John appears in records as John Gilliam “of Prince George County” to distinguish him from his nephew John Gilliam, “of Surry County.” John’s father had land in that part of Charles City County that became Prince George County in 1703 and he apparently went there to live. Mr. John Gillom secured a patent to 261 acres in Bristol Parish, Charles City County, on the south side of the Appomattox River 20 Oct. 1689. When Robert Bolling got a patent on the Appomattox River in 1690, it was next to John Gillum. In 1704 John paid quit rents on 1,000 acres in Prince George County, which was likely part of 1,300 acres in Charles City County John Gilham, John’s father, purchased from Edward Hill 21 July 1664. The tract belonged to Francis Osborne until later escheated. In 1714 John Gilliam secured a patent to 324 acres on 4 islands in the Appomattox River in Prince George County, where he established his home, “Monte Alto.” In 1718 the court granted John Gilliam an attachment against David Collyshaw. Prince George County rewarded John Gilliam Sr. and Jr. for killing wolves 11 Jan. 1720/1. His son of that name would have been only 8 years of age. In 1726 John Gilliam Sr. purchased 200 acres in Prince George County from Charles Gilliam Sr. and Jr. and sold Charles Sr. another 200 acres. Charles Sr. was John’s brother who apparently inherited land in Prince George County, too. In 1732 John Gilliam Sr. got 183 acres in Prince George County in the main fork of Deep Creek in Prince George (now Amelia) County, which would later belong to his daughters, Margery, Martha, and Ann. On 5 Sept. 1723 2 land patents were issued for John Gilliam. John Gilliam of Charles City County got 366 acres in Prince George County next to Robert Bolling and John Gilliam of Prince George County got 240 acres in Surry County on the north side of the Nottoway River. Bolling had surveyed the former tract for Gilliam 24 Jan. 1720/1. He was apparently the John Gilliam who, with Joshua Pritchett was an executor of the will of Thomas Nunnally. Ann Gilliam presented the will of John Gilliam 8 Jan. 1739/40 that appointed his wife and son, John Gilliam, executors, and that was witnessed by William Starke, Thomas Green, and Martha Gilliam.

If This profile and the three bulleted ones are all the same person, they should merge into Gilliam-204 (lowest-numbered one). Don's cast Miss Briggs adrift... different mothers should be resolved before merging duplicate profiles for a son.
Thanks!
