Biography

Chesley Gilliam was born in 1811 in Russell, Virginia, United States, son of Richard Gilliam (~1765–~1848) and Judith Stidham (~1771–~1845).

Chesley (24) married Elizabeth Estep (14) (born in 1821 in Floyd, Kentucky; daughter of Joel Henry Estep Sr. and Nancy (Nelson) Estep) on April 4, 1836 in Floyd County, Kentucky. Their son was John Gillum (1837–1927).

Chesley (27) married Sarah Elliott (18) (born in 1820 in Russell, USA; daughter of James Peter Elliott and Obedience (Parsley) Elliott) on January 31, 1839 in Scott, Virginia.[1] Their daughter was Melinda Jane Gilliam (1851–1927).

In 1850, Chesley was living in District 1, Carter, Kentucky. [2]

Chesley died in 1880 in Elliott, Kentucky, aged 68.

Chesly Gilliam of Carter County Kentucky was arrested for giving aid to the Confederacy on May 11, 1863 and was taken to the Camp Chase Prison located in Columbus, Ohio, where he arrived on May 16, 1863. Chesly was listed as being a citizen of Carter. [7]
