Biography

Obedience Goode was born at Whitby Plantation. Whitby, the old home of the Goode family, stood on the James River, just outside of and down river from Manchester. It was certainly in possession of this family by 1682, when John Goode sold off a portion of “my plantation called Whitby” next to Stoney Creek [OME]. Obedience was born April 12, 1747 to Robert Goode and Mary Turpin. She died, unmarried, in 1800.[1]
