Biography

Jonathan was born in 1766.

Jonathan was living with the family of his son, Aldin in Claridon, Ohio in 1850[1] and 1860[2].

Jonathan wrote a will in March of 1859, naming children: Anna Titcomb, Aurill Lord, Electa Graves, Harriet Kadjoe, Alden Goold, Frederick H. Goold and Charlotte Burt.[3][4]

He passed away in 1865.[5][6]

Research Notes

Researchers have found at least two Jonathan Goold/Goulds associated with Westminster Vermont in the mid 1800s. One of them passed away in Chester Vermont in 1850, whereas the Jonathan of this profile lived in Westminster through the early 1800s (when his children were born), before relocating to Geauga County, Ohio sometime before 1850, passing away in 1865. His will names seven children, all with associated birth records in Westminster between 1793 and 1809.

The grave marker for Jonathan lists a birth date of 1766, which nearly agrees with the ages listed in the 1850 and 1860 census. The birth date listed in this profile still needs a source. Also verification of Jonathan's spouse (generally listed as Anna Whitney) is needed.

Goold-11 and Gould-9834 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate except for death date. 9834 date is provided by FaG.

I'm not so sure these profiles are clear duplicates; they share a common name, and a birth date, 25 March 1766 (which is unsourced in both), but that's about it. There were at least two different Jonathans associated with Windham County, Vermont at this time period, and I think the problem is we don't know which one (or either!) was born on 25 Mar 1766. One of the Jonathans passed away in Geauga County, Ohio in 1865 and left a will which named seven children, all of whom have birth records in Westminster, Vermont, so he was in that area from at least 1793- 1809. His grave marker claims a birth year of 1766, which is (nearly) consistent with the ages in his last two census.

The other Jonathan is buried in Windham County, passing away in 1850. (Find a Grave, database and images (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/118668972/john-goold: accessed 29 August 2023), memorial page for John Goold (25 Mar 1761–22 May 1850), Find a Grave Memorial ID 118668972, citing North Windham Cemetery, North Windham, Windham County, Vermont, USA; Maintained by DebL (contributor 47462502).) The grave marker implies he was born in 1761.

Perhaps the thing to do for now is to leave both profiles separate and replace the listed births with the dates from the grave markers until more reliable sources are found. Also sources for the spouses of both Jonathans would be helpful.

The other Jonathan is buried in Chester, Windham County, passing away in 1850. (Find a Grave, database and images (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/118668972/john-goold: accessed 29 August 2023), memorial page for John Goold (25 Mar 1761–22 May 1850), Find a Grave Memorial ID 118668972, citing North Windham Cemetery, North Windham, Windham County, Vermont, USA; Maintained by DebL (contributor 47462502).) The grave marker implies he was born in 1761. Mary Spring, the daughter listed in the profile of Goold-11, was buried in Chester, VT, suggesting she was more probably the daughter of the Jonathan who died in 1850.

Perhaps the thing to do for now is to leave both profiles separate and replace the listed births in the profile with the dates from the grave markers until more reliable sources are found. Also sources for the spouses of both Jonathans would be helpful.
