Biography

Charles Vincent Green, son of Willet Greene and Hannah Vincent was born sometime between 1817 and 1820, according to census records. On August 20, 1844, Charles Green married Margaret Ann Pineo at Medford, Kings Co., Nova Scotia[1]

The 1850 US Census shows the Charles Green family living at Calais, Washington Co., Maine where Chas followed his occupation as a ship carpenter.[2]

By the time of the 1860-1 Canada Census, the family was living at Canning, Kings Co., Nova Scotia and by 1871, at St. John, St. John Co., New Brunswick.

A terrible fire occurred at Canning on Saturday night, July 15, 1866. It destroyed 53 of the town's stores and houses. On July 1, 1868, Canning received another destructive blow when fire destroyed 26 stores and 14 homes. Hardly anyone had insurance.[3] The townspeople must have been completely devastated.
