Biography

It's difficult to ascertain which Greer is Sarah's father since it appears both Joshua (1750-1796) and Jessie (1757 - 1788), sons of John Greer (1714-1782) of Gunpowder River, Baltimore County, Maryland had a daughter, Sarah Greer, born in 1783-4

Captain Jesse Greer married Judith Hampton Greer. Captain Jesse died sometime in 1787 or 1788, leaving his children orphans. Judith soon married again to William Mitchell. A William Johnson served as guardian to Sarah and her brothers and sisters until the estate was settled finally in 1799.

A number of the Wilkes County Greers migrated to the vicinity of Barren and Warren Counties, Kentucky, in the early part of the 1800's. it appears that William and Judith, moved back to Wilkesboro, N. C. toward the latter part of 1810, or were back there visiting relatives, because it is reported that Judith died there on February 11, 1811.

The Brown family had a close relationship with the Greer family back in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Joshua Greer who married Sarah Jones had a son John N. (Greer), born 1770/74, of Wilkes in 1830; married Judith Brown ca 1798."
