Biography

Birth

Thomasine was a possible daughter of John Gresley, Knt., of Drakelow, Derbyshire, and Knight of the Shire for Derbyshire and Elizabeth Clarell, daughter of Sir Thomas Clarell, Esq., of Aldwark, Yorkshire, and Matilda Montgomery (see research note).[1][2][3][4] In addition to Thomasine, John and Elizabeth's marriage produced the following issue:[1][5]

Thomasine's birthdate is estimated as having occurred around 1410, based upon the 1409 marriage of her parents.[1][2]

Marriage

Thomasine married Hugh Wrottesley , Esq., of Wrottesley, Staffordshire, son of John de Wrottesley and Elizabeth Standish.[6] Their marriage produced the following issue:

Death

The date and locations of Thomasine's death and burial are unknown.

Research Notes

According to Douglas Richardson, it is not certain that Thomasine was the daughter of the parents currently shown. See the entries for Elizabeth Clarell in Magna Carta Ancestry Vol. II p. 26 and Royal Ancestry Vol. III p. 114.

The Magna Carta Project identified this profile in a trail between Gateway Ancestor Richard More and one or more Magna Carta surety barons. If there are no objections, I will be adding the project as co-manager of this profile. This profile (and trail) still need to be verified against Richardson's works and then developed against the project's checklist. Thanks!

Further research has shown that this profile is not in a firm trail from a Magna Carta Surety Baron to a Gateway Ancestor so I have removed the Magna Carta Project section and removed the Magna Carta Project as manager

Elizabeth Clarell, married in 1409 (as his 1st wife) John Gresley, son of Thomas Gresley, by Margaret, daughter of Thomas Gresley. They had two sons, John, and Nicholas, and two daughters, Katherine, and possibly Tomasine (wife of Hugh Wrottesley).

Thank you!
