Biography

An affidavit by Benjamin L'Ecuyer and Francis Roy stated that they were well acquainted with the children of Amable and Archange Grignon, and "That said children are sons and daughter of Amable Grignon, deceased, who was the son of Pier[re] Grignon, by a full blood Winnebago woman named E, chau, wau, kah, who was Sister of the Decarris of Fort Winnebago — that said Amable Grignon, married the Mother of these children about twelve years ago, and resided at Prairie du Chien until his death which was in the Spring of 1836." (Waggoner, 16a)

Two persons of note, H. L. Dousman and John H. Kinzie (husband of the author of Wau Bun), gave depositions stating, "they themselves were also acquainted with Amable Grignon, father to said children, and know that he was a great friend to the Indians and a very useful man ..." (Waggoner, 16b)
