Biography

Joseph was a Friend (Quaker)

Joseph Hadley was born on 05 Oct 1745 in New Castle County, Delaware [1] and his parents were Patience (BROWN) and Joshua Hadley.

He was the youngest of the sons born to his parents, although he had four younger sisters. While still a very young child, his parents moved the family from Delaware to the western part of Virginia. About 1755 they settled in Orange (now Alamance) County. North Carolina.

He inherited the home of his parents in Orange County, North Carolina, but apparently he never lived there after their death.

On 09 Nov 1791 in Orange County, North Carolina Joseph HADLEY married secondly to Rachel HARVEY [2] (b: 02 May 1746 NC).

They were members of the Cane Creek Monthly Meeting, located near Snow Camp and they were among the original membership of the Spring Monthly Meeting, established in 1793.

He died about 1793 at the age of 48 in Orange County, North Carolina and was buried at Spring Friends Cemetery located about six miles east of Snow Camp, Alamance County, North Carolina. [3]

Six of Joseph's eleven children moved from North Carolina to Indiana.
