In 1563, he was imprisoned in Edinburgh Castle for popery.[7]
John was hanged on 6 Apr 1571 for the murders of King Henry and Regent Moray.[8]

Hamilton-4469 and Hamilton-1254 do not represent the same person because: James Hamilton had two sons named John. John of Broomhill was born from Janet Calderwood, and married Elizabeth Hamilton, and had Claud. John Hamilton from Beatrix Drummond married Janet Home, and had Margaret. These are two separate people.
