Biography

John (Hamilton) Hamilton of Cambuskeith is a member of Clan Hamilton.

JOHN HAMILTON OF CAMBUSKEITH is the son of Alexander Hamilton of Cambuskeith, and his wife, Marion Cunningham[1][2]"John had a charter of the lands of Cambuskeith, dated 10th October, 1530; and another to himself and Janet (aka Jonet) Stewart, his spouse, of the mill o f Cambuskeith, and the milnlands thereof, dated 21st September 1532. In 1542, he appears as one of the curators to young Hames Hamilton of Evandale, whose father, Sir James Fynart, had been recently executed on an alleged charge of high treason." [3]

"We find, from his last will and testament, registered in the Commissary Recordss of Glasgow, 22d January, 1547-8, that he died on the 12th September of the preceding year. According to the same authority, his wife's name at that time was Joneta Montgomery; from which it appears that he was married twice." [3]

John left issue:

  • William, his successor, who was retoured heir to his father in 1546, married Christian Farquhar, daughter of the Laird of Gilminscroft, by whom he had issue, James his successor [3]
  • Arthur and Elizabeth: both mentioned in their father's last testament.
