Biography

John Matthew Hamilton was born on 30 Aug 1863 in Lee County, Mississippi, United States, son of William Witherspoon Hamilton (1841 - 1901) and Ann Elizabeth Bigham (1840 - 1895).

His sibling is James Alfred Hamilton (1867 - ~1870).

He moved with his family to Texas when he was nine years old, settled first at New Hope, but later moving to Garland.

'Matt' Hamilton was married twice:

1. John married Maggie Meyers (1867 - 1897) on 14 Jan 1890. Their children were:
   1. Nancy Florence (Hamilton) Bacon (~1890 - 1970)
   2. John Edwin Hamilton (1892 - 1955)
   3. Dewitt Hamilton (1894 - 1970).
2. John married Allie May Parker (1874 - 1939) on 15 Jan 1899. Their children were:
   1. Raymond Parker Hamilton (1899 - 1990)
   2. Katherine Faye Hamilton (1902 - 1979)
   3. James Alton Hamilton (1904 - >1942)
   4. Allie Merle (Hamilton) Shugart (1912 - 1998).

John died on 4 May 1933 in Texas aged 69.^[1][2]

Copy of his obituary is on Find A Grave: Memorial #55019351, stating that his services were held at the Garland Gaptist Church He was survived by his 2nd wife and all 7 of his children from both marriages.

He was buried in Garland Memorial Park, Garland, Dallas County, Texas.^[3]
