Biography

A discrepancy is noted, in that his brother Benjamin's birth date is recorded, in _Vital Records of Rochester, Massachusetts to the Year 1850_ (Boston, MA: New England Historical Society - 1914), p145, as having been born on 18 Dec 1682. That would be less than 2 months before the recorded birth of Seth.

In the town record book of Rochester is an entry, "Seth Hammonds childrens births by his wife Mary are as followeth:"[1]

  • jerusha Hammond their Daughter was born the 2d Day of may in the year 1708
  • Aculus Hammond their Son was born the 15th Day of Desember in ye year 1709
  • jedediah Hammond their Son was born the 16th Day of Desember in ye year 1711

Seth Hammond ... Seth Hammond was born on 13 February 1683 at Mattapoisett, Plymouth Co., MA.1 He was the son of Samuel Hammond and Mary (Mercy) Hathaway.1 Seth Hammond married Mary Mercy Randall, daughter of John Randall and Patience Parker, on 4 March 1705 at Rochester, Plymouth Co., MA.1 His will of Feb. 28, 1737, names wife, Mary, and his children. Many of his descendants followed the sea.2 Seth Hammond died on 28 February 1737 at Rochester, Plymouth Co., MA, at age 54.1,3


Probate

On 28 February 1737/38, his son Archelaus Hammond of Rochester was granted the administration of his estate. His inventory was taken on 14 March 1737/38 in Rochester. His widow Mary received some necessary utensils from his estate.[2]

In 1738, his widow Mercy received her dower.[3]

In 1759, an account of his estate by Aehcalus was recorded which included land sold, and administration fees.[4]
