On January 15, 1787, in Surry County, Carter married Mary Howell Allen of "Claremont" on the James,[1] and had three children: William Allen, Benjamin Carter and Anna Carter (Harrison) Adams. Rep. Harrison's second wife was Jane Byrd, who died ca. 1813. There were no children by this union.[2]

Issue with 1st Wife: Son, John Allen, who died May 17_3, Will May 1783. John devised lands to his father.
Issue by 2nd Wife: Son, William Allen, who had issue: Mary Howell, wife of Carter Bassett Harrison; Ann Armistead; Allen; and Martha Bland Allen, the last two infants.
