Biography

Andrew Hatfield was born in Appalachia, in West Virginia.

Andrew 'Andy' Hatfield was the son of Ellison Hatfield & Sarah Ann (Staton) Hatfield. A birth record says he was born on 21 March 1882 at Meador, Mingo, West Virginia, United States[1]; however, Mingo county did not exist until 1895. Hence the birth location is shown above as Logan County, West Virginia which was the parent county prior to Mingo's formation.

In the 1900 census Andrew (age 18) was the single son of Sarah Hatfield at Magnolia district Matewan town, Mingo, West Virginia, United States.[2]

Andy married Lizzie Wright on 26 Jul 1904 at Mingo, West Virginia, United States.[3] Thay had at least one child together.

Andy married Biddie Murphy on 20 Nov 1906 at Thacker, Mingo, West Virginia, United States.[4]

In the 1910 census Kirk (age 28) was the married head of household with wife Biddie (age 19) at Magnolia, Mingo, West Virginia, United States.[5]

Andrew (age 36) married Agatha Brotherton (age 28) on 5 Feb 1917 at Meador, Mingo, West Virginia, United States.[6] The marriage license, obtained on 2 Feb 1917 indicated that he was a coal miner and a widower.

In the 1920 census Andrew (age 38) was the married head of household with wife Agatha (age 34) and daughter Margaret (age 2) at Mingo, West Virginia, United States.[7] Also in the household were Andy's mother, Sarah (age 75) and brother, Floyd (age 48).

In the 1930 census Andy K Hatfield (age 48) was the married head of household with wife Agatha (age 42) and five daughters at Magnolia, Mingo, West Virginia, United States.[8] Also in the household were Andy's mother, Sarah (age 86) and brother, Floyd (age 62).

In the 1940 census Kirk (age 58) was the married head of household with wife Agatha (age 54) and five daughters at Magnolia Magisterial District, Mingo, West Virginia, United States.[9] Also in the household was Andy's brother, Floyd (age 68). His mother Sarah must have died between the 1930 and 1940 censuses.

Andy was in a military record in 1942 at Newtown, Mingo, West Virginia, United States.[10] He died on 26 May 1967 at Mingo, West Virginia.[11] He was laid to rest at Hatfield Cemetery, Newtown, Mingo County, West Virginia, United States.[12]

Agatha died (age 90) on 13 October 1975 in Harrisonburg, Rockingham, Virginia, United States.[13] She was laid to rest beside Andrew at Hatfield Cemetery, Newtown, Mingo County, West Virginia, United States.[14]
