William Hay, 4th Earl of Erroll was the son of William Hay, 3rd Earl of Erroll and Lady Isabella Gordon.[1]
He married, firstly, Christian Lyon, daughter of John Lyon, 3rd Lord Glamis and Elizabeth Scrymgeour, circa 24 April 1492.[1] They had issue:
He married, secondly, Margaret Kerr, daughter of Andrew Kerr of Auldtounburn and Cessford and Margaret Tweedie, circa 17 May 1509.[1]

He succeeded to the title of 4th Lord Hay and to the title of 4th Earl of Erroll on 14 January 1506/7.[1]
He held the office of Hereditary Sheriff of Aberdeen on 10 February 1510/11.[1]
He fought and died in the Battle of Flodden on 9 September 1513and he died at Flodden Field, Northumberland, England.[1][3]
