Biography

Thomas Hartford Heath, born May 25, 1738 in East Haddam, Middlesex, Connecticut; died November 27, 1797 in Orphan's Court entry for partition of Thomas' estate made in Plymouth, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Thomas Heath and Waitstill Fuller. He married Mary Magdelena Walderon December 09, 1764 in Stone Arabia, Montgomery County, New York. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

Children of Thomas Heath and Mary Walderon are:

i. John Walderod Heath, born Abt. 1786 in Plymouth, Pennsylvania; died Abt. July 17, 1841 in Mississippi River; married Mary "Polly" Hill Harvey Abt. 1813 in Louisiana.
ii. Thomas Heath, born September 15, 1765 in Jefferson County, Mississippi or Palatine, New York (depending on the source).
iii. Waitstill/Waitsel Heath, born about 1768 probably in Pennslyvania; married about 1788 in New York to William Baker, born about 1765 in Dutches County, New York. According to James Carlson: "William Baker "enlisted as a drummer boy, 10 Apr 1781, in the Dutchess County, New York Militia (Private, Second Reg. Officers: Willet, Reg. Company Commander Welp). He later served with a Pennsylvania regiment. He lost both feet by reason of frost bite in winter of 1782. William and a companion were so badly frozen just at the close of the war that their only chance for life was amputation of feet and legs to the knee. The companion refused, saying he would die than go through life as a cripple. William said he would rather take the chance which he did. Both legs were amputated just below the knee; the other man died. William Baker was not eighteen years at the close of the war. William Baker married Waitsel Heath. He learned tailoring to support his family and was a respected member of his community. Waitsel died at the birth of her second daughter, who was named for her and called Waity. William Baker married again to have someone to look after the children. The new wife, Polly Moore, tried to drown the baby, but some fishermen rescued her. She was bound over to Mr. and Mrs. Philip Andrews on November 16, 1804. The record is found in Volume 144, Library of Northumberland County, Pennsylvania Historical Society. Mr. Andrews died and Mrs. Andrews married Mr. Robert Tietsworth. Waity married Daniel Mettler, and after Mr. Tietsworth's death they moved to Knox County, Ohio, taking Elizabeth Tietsworth with them. His wives were said to be a very beautiful women. Both of his wives were crippled. When asked by a friend how he came to win two such lovely wives he would laugh and say, "you see, I went to them on my knees"--Source: Written by child of one of William's great-grandchildren, probably Lucy Honora (Cooper) Daniel."
iv. Adolphus Heath, born March 27, 1771 in Jefferson County, Mississippi or Plymouth, Pennsylvania (depending on source); died October 14, 1853. See also Orphan's Court record dated November 27, 1797, regarding the partition of the Estate of Thomas Heath, listing his heirs as: Thomas Heath (Jr.)(son), William Baker and Waity Baker, Adolph Heath (son Adolphus), Peleg Heath (son), Samuel Heath (son) and John (Walderod Heath) (son) and mentioning Thomas Hartford Heath's widow, Mary Heath by name (note that all comments listed in paranthesis above are the comments of TEP and not specifically included in the will). See also Orphan's Court record dated December 30, 1800 regarding John Heath's choice of his brother, Adolph Heath as his guardian.
