Could he have been married a third time?? see: Joseph HEGEMAN; m. to Jannetje VanHORNE, bp. 10 Feb 1664 NYC, dau. of Cornelius Jansen VanHOORN & Anne Marie JANS. He took the Oath of Allegiance to the King (of England) when control of New Amsterdam was transferred to the English. He took the Oath on Sept. 26-30 1687, one of the early signers of the list. He states that he had been in this country for 37 years which makes his date of immigration 1650. source Lorine McGinnus Schulz, Olive Tree Web site, Oath of Allegiance list.<www.rootsweb.com/-ote/oath.htm>
In 1710 with others, he bought the Harlingen tract in Somerset Co.,NJ.
Nettie Weaver says he died in about 1725 in Flatbush, LI, NY. Remsen Family sources (p.341) list him as dying in Somerset Co., NJ.
In Flatbush, he owned a farm of 40 1/2 Morgens, about 80 acres. He was a member of the Flatbush DRC in 1677. He was an Elder in 1690. He took the oath of Allegiance in Flatbush in 1687 and was appointed Cornet of Horse in 1689. In 1690, he opposed the Leislerian faction and was listed on the census of 1698. (source, Nettie Weaver)
Hegeman-135 and Hegeman-80 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest paternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge into the NNS PPP. No tree conflicts. Thanks!

Hi just found this ,was looking at the marriage of Sarah van der Bilt and Joseph(Joost) Hegeman ,had some doubts, because in my source they said Femmetje Rems died in 1686 ,but there were children of her and Joseph born after that date ,so looked further for Sarah van der Bilt and found a marriage record of her and a Jacobus Hegeman,so probably ,a Jacobus married Sarah van der Bilt(not brother Jacobus because he died earlier) and not Joseph as many soures say. exact same marriage date ,but not married too Joseph(Joost) but too a Jacobus Hegeman.
1782. Sept 2. Hageman, Jacobus, and Sarah Van Der Bilt
So I removed marriage with Sarah from Joseph,
seems more accurate than someone married for second time while his first wife is still alive and giving birth to some of his children .
right below there´s a marriage of a Joost (Joseph was called Joost also)
1758. Nov. 17. Hageman, Joost, and Gertruyd Hageman ,possibly this is the second marriage of Joseph Hegeman and they by accident got mixed up somehow ??O no he already died before this date ,so this is another (Joseph/Joost)
