Biography

Benjamin, youngest son of Henry Herrick

There is no birth, baptism, death or burial record for Henry's youngest son Benjamin. It is presumed that all of these happened in Salem, Massachusetts where the family resided.

The inventory of Benjamin Herrick, deceased, was presented to the Essex County probate court on 27 March, 1677.[1] The estate was valued at £132. The court ordered the following:

"Benjamin Herrick dyeing intestate this court grants power of Administration unto his two brothers Zachery & Ephriam the estate to be equally devyded between all the brothears and sisters exepting Thomas viz/ zachariah Ephreaim Henry Joseph John and Elizabeth the sister wife of Phillip ffowler, the mother of the sd Beniamin to have the incom of the land dureing her naturall life.[2]"

The will of Benjamin's father Henry, dated 1671, leaves Benjamin 10 pounds and also:

I give unto my sonn Beniamyn all that pasture land' called my english pasture, wch joyneth on the east syde to Andrew Eliott, lyeing betweene the countrye highway & the mill river, I say all that land lying on the southeast syde of the sd country highway the wch pasture land with the appurtenances, my will is shall remaine in the hands of my sonn Henry to improve until Benjamyn be 21 years of age[3]

From these two probate documents we know that Benjamin reached the age of 21, so had been born by 1656; that he died unmarried and without issue; without a will; and before his inventory dated 27 March 1677.
