Biography

Thornton P Heskett was born in December 1805 in Jefferson Co., Virginia. He is the son of Benjamin Heskett and Elizabeth Palmer. Based on his childrens' census data, the Hesketts appear to have come from England to Virginia.

He married Tamar Reed 21 October 1830 in Belmont Co., Ohio.[1]

They lived in Summerfield, Guernsey County, Ohio during the early 1830s.[2] They then moved to Belmont County, Ohio for the next several years.[3][4]

In June 1834, John D Price and his wife Sarah set aside an acre of land to trustrees for the establishment of a place of Worship for the Methodist Episcopal Church ( this became Bethel Church in Warren Township). Thornton Heskett was mentioned as one of the trustees. Another one of the trustees mentioned was John Hyett. There is an 1830 marriage record for Hyatt - he married Elizabeth Heskett in Belmont County. Could Elizabeth be a sibling to Thornton?[5]

The Hesketts remained living in Warren Township, Belmont County, Ohio in 1840. The household likely contained Thornton and Tamar, as well as children Isaac, John, Benjamin, and Amanda.

Thornton is the head of household, and the rest of the family included Tamar, John, Benjamin, Amanda, Isaac, Matilda, Thornton, Samuel, and Charles. Thornton Sr. was farming and had real estate worth $1200. Based on the birth location of the children, it appears the family left Ohio after Charles was born in 1848.
