Elkanah Higgins, of a proven Mayflower line, 6th in descent from Thomas Rogers, was born on 18 November 1764 in Eastham, Massachusetts. His parents were Ebenezer Higgins and Hannah (Yates) Higgins[1].
He married Jemima Cole on 26 Jun 1790 in Limington, Maine, and they settled in Standish (then called Pearsontown). They had eleven children[2]:
1. Samuel, born 2 Feb 1791; married Olive Chute
2. Elizabeth, born 25 Jan 1793; married Stephen Hancock. No Mayflower Society Lines also m. John Foss b. 1794, they had son John Foss 1825 Mayflower Line who married Sophia F. Johnson and their son Llewellyn Augustus Foss b. 22 jan 1852 who married Nellie McLaughlin and they had daughter Lula Hazel Foss b 22 apr 1894 m. Raymond Higgins b. 19 oct 1882
3. Ebenezer, born 20 Jul 1795; married 1st Mary Thompson, 2nd Hannah Foss, 3rd Miriam (Strout) Thorne
4. Abner, born 25 Nov 1797; married Anna Shute
5. Yates, born 11 Jun 1799; married Almira Chandler
6. Jonathan, born 20 Apr 1801; married Martha Sanborn
7. Elkanah, born 13 Nov 1802
8. Heman, born 29 Apr 1804; married Mary Gross Higgins
9. Reliance, born 25 Jan 1806; married Stephen Knight
10. Experience, born 11 Feb 1808
11. Curtis, born 19 Aug 1810; married 1st Harriet Decker, 2nd Mrs. Rose A. Hoxie
In his later years, Elkanah moved to Rome, Maine, to live with his daughter, Mrs. John Foss. He died there on 4 November 1864[3].
