The records of the First Congregational Church of Salem, Mass. show that James Haines was a member as early as Dec. 25, 1637, and the baptisms of his eight children are recorded, including Benjamin, baptized Aug. 26, 1643.

Benj. son Bro. Haines 26. 6. 1643.
There is a discussion in the Hinds Family book regarding the spelling and pronunciation of the surname of this family, and why it is possible for a family whose name is spelled "Haines" is actually from the same ancestors as those with the name "Hinds" [4]
The American Genealogist. New Haven, CT: D. L. Jacobus, 1937-. (Online database. AmericanAncestors.org. New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2009 - .) Vol. 35 (1959) p. 112, 113. where it says that "Benj Hayes or Haines, bp at Salem, 28 Aug 1643 son of James & Mary Haines seems to have married first a daughter, most likely Hannah, of Samuel and Susannah Clark, since the will of Susannah Clark calls him son, and his own will calls Samuel Clark (Jr.) his brother.... he married (2nd) Johanna Jennings and she is proved to be the mother of the younger daughter, Sarah."subscribers$
