Biography

Alice Holcroft was born about 1527 ^[1] in Great Harwood, Lancashire, England, daughter of John Holcroft (<1498–1560) and Anne Standish (1507–>1560).

Alice married Thomas Hesketh (born about 1526 in Rufford; son of Sir Robert Hesketh and Grace (Towneley) Hesketh).

Their children were:

• Thomas Hesketh (1560– )
• Richard Hesketh (1562–1593)
• Hugh Hesketh

A second chantry at the same altar was founded by Alice,^[2] widow of Robert Hesketh. After her husband's death this lady became a nun. She left three sons Thomas, who succeeded to the estate ; Richard, who was Attorney-General to Henry VIII. ; Hugh, who was in Holy Orders and was appointed by his brother chantry priest at Rufford. He became Bishop of the Isle of Man in 1522.

Alice died about 1630 in Rufford Old Hall, Rufford, Lancashire, aged 102.

Also potentially this Alice wife of Thomas Heskethe but dates are all wrong : Alice died 1 May 1566 and her burial ceremony was held at St Peter and St Paul Church , Ormskirk, Lancashire, England. ^[4]
