Biography

Winnie Holtzclaw was born about 1775 in Fauquier county, Virginia. Winnie was the daughter of Jacob Holtzclaw and Millie Dodson.

Winnie married John Bowie on the 17th December 1796 in Fauquier county, Virginia.[1]

Winnie appears in the appropriate age group in the 1820 Federal census in Fauquier county, Virginia in the household of John Bowie. John's household appears as follows: 2 males under age 10; 2 males age 10 thru 15; 1 male age over 45; 1 female under age 10; 1 female age 10 thru 15; 1 female age 16 thru 25; 1 female age 26 thru 44; and 16 slaves.[2]

Winnie passed away after the 1820 Federal census and before the 1830 Federal census as a woman of Winnie's age does not appear in the 1830 Federal census in the household of John Bowie in Fauquier county, Virginia.[3]

According to 15 Ancestry DNA matches, I am descended from Winnie and John's daughter, Harriet Bowie who married John Wilson. All we knew before the test was that William C. Wilson was our 2nd great grandfather. Turns out, he's their youngest child. Winnie married John Bowie, who are William's grandparents.
