Lady Margaret Home was the eldest of the two daughters of Alexander Home, 1st Earl of Home and his second wife, Mary Sutton (often known by her title 'Dudley' rather than the surname 'Sutton') and eventually co-heirs of their brother James Home, 2nd Earl of Home.[1]

A contract for the marriage of Lady Margaret Home and James Stuart, 4th Earl of Moray was signed on 18 October 1627.Her married name became Stuart. As a result of her marriage, Lady Margaret Home was styled as Countess of Moray on 6 August 1638.
