Born about 1693, Henry Howard was the eldest son of Charles Howard, earl of Carlisle [1]and his wife, Anne Capell. He was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge. [1]
In 1715 he was returned to Parliament with Viscount Castlecomer as one of the Members for Morpeth. Castlecomer chose to sit for Ripon and was replaced in a by-election by George Carpenter. [2]
On the 27th of November 1717 he married Lady Frances Spencer, daughter of Charles Spencer, Earl of Sunderland [1]and his wife, Arabella Cavendish. They were parents of three sons and two daughters. [1]
In 1722 Henry and George Carpenter were again chosen to represent Morpeth in Parliament but in 1727 he shared the representation with Thomas Robinson and in 1734 with Sir Henry Liddell. [2] His father died on the 1st of May 1738 when Henry succeeded him as the 4th Earl of Carlisle. [1]
Frances died on the 27th of July 1742. [1] On the 8th of June 1743 Henry married Isabella Byron, daughter of William, Baron Byron [1] and his wife, Frances Berkeley. They were parents of a son and four daughters. [1]
Henry died on the 3rd of September 1758. [1]
