Sir Francis Howard was the son of William Howard, Lord of Naworth castle.[1] He was born in 1588 at Mount Pleasant house in Enfield Chase, Middlesex. His mother was Elizabeth Dacre, heiress to the Greystock estates.[2]
Firstly to Anne Preston (Father: John Preston of Furness manor). Issue:[5]
Thomas Howard. He was a Colonel of Horse in the King's army and died at the battle of Adwalton (Atherton) Moor on 30 Jun 1643, aged 25 (birth est. 1618). He is not known to have married.
Elizabeth Howard. She married Edward Standish of Standish, Lancashire.
Secondly to Mary Widdrington (Father: Sir Henry Widdrington). They had children:[6]
Margaret Howard. She married Thomas Haggerston of Haggerston, Northumberland.
Alathea Howard, of which there is no further notice and she is presumed to have died young.
Catherine Howard, she was buried at Wetheral church on 12 May 1663.
Anne Howard. She is buried at Wetheral church on 24 June 1683.
Francis Howard, esq. (b. 29 Jun 1635). He inherited the estates on the death of his father. He died, without male heir, on 28 Dec 1702 and is buried at Wetheral church. He married twice:
m.1 Anne Gerard. (Father: William Gerard of Brynne Lancashire). They had three daughters; Mary, Frances and Anne.
m.2 Mary Anne Dorothy Townley of Townley, Lancashire. They had one son and two daughters that died in infancy and another daughter who survived him but was unmarried. Mary Anne also survived him and died 30 Dec 1718.
Henry Howard, presumed to have died young.
Thomas Howard, presumed to have died young.
William Howard, esq. He was devisee to his older brother Francis and eventual heir to his father. He was an officer in the Navy and lost a leg in an engagement with the Dutch fleet. He died 31 Oct 1708 and was buried at Wetheral. He married Jane Dalston (Father: John Dalston of Acorn Bank). They had children. She died 24 June 1710 and was buried at Wetheral.
