Biography

David Howe was born in Hopkinton, Middlesex, Massachusetts on 17 May 1744, the son of Peter Howe and Thankful Howe.[1] He moved to New Hampshire and settled in Hopkinton about the same time as his brothers Peter and Jotham. He married Mary Unknown and had five children in Hopkinton, New Hampshire.. With his brothers, he signed the "Association Test" for Hopkinton, New Hampshire April 1776,, which promised the following:

WE, the Subscribers, do hereby solemnly engage, and promise, that we will, to the utmost of our Power, at the Risque of our Lives and Fortunes, with ARMS, oppose the Hostile Proceedings of the British Fleets, and Armies, against the United American COLONIES..[2]

He served in the Revolution in Capt. Joshua Bayley's Company in Col. Thomas Stickney's Regiment in Gen. Stark's Brigade that marched from Hopkinton, New Hampshire in 1777 and joined the Northern Continental Army. He was also in Col. Moses Kelley's regiment in August-September 1778 in Rhode Island.[3]
