Daniel was born in 1719. He married 13 Dec. 1739, Sarah Widger, (ancestry unknown.) He was the first physician in Andover. Mass., and was noted for his skill in the treatment of the insane. The Provincial Congress on 14 June 1775, passed a resolution citing that "Dr. How of Andover is prepared to receive insane patients and is well skilled in such disorders," and committing to his care Daniel Adams, a soldier in camp at Cambridge, Mass. It was probably Dr. Howe's reputation that influenced the selection of Andover as a place of retreat for the patriot James Otis after his mind had become deranged. He was probably twice married, as we find on records of Andover, the marriage of Dr. Daniel How and Susanna Tirrell of Abington, Mass., 5 March 1780. He died I Nov 1797, aged 78 years and 5 month.[1]
