Can anyone add sourced documentation to this profile?
Name
There is documentation with the name William Hull, but not with the name Absolom.[1]. The tombstone says Wm Hull. [2] Ancestry family trees show the name William Absolom Hull. [3] The only sources listed found in ancestry trees are the census records, marriage record, and references to other family trees. However, the name Absolom does occur in his descendants. William had a son, grandson, granddaughter and great-grandson with the name Absolom.
Birth and Parents
William Hull was born 16 Dec 1796 in North Carolina. The date is written on his tombstone. The date is consistent with the 1820 census. The data and place are consistent with the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census. William Hull is thought to be the son of Jesse Hull and his wife Rebecca, perhaps Rebecca Staley. William Hull resides near Jesse Hull in 1820 in Cumberland County, Kentucky. William Hull deeds land in Cumberland County, Kentucky, to Jesse Hull.[4]
Early Life
Several family members of the Hull family are mentioned in transcribed minutes of the Clear Fork United Baptist Church in Cumberland County, Kentucky. William Hull and his brother Micajah Hull are probably the transcribed "Elicajah [sic] HULL" and "Wm HULL" who were "Recvd by experience" [joined the church] in May 1820.[5][6]
William Hull obtained land in 1819 on Goose Creek in Cumberland Co, KY, Deed book D, page 25.[7] William and wife Elizabeth Hull of McMinn Co TN deed the land on Goose Creek to Jesse Hull in 1823, Deed Book E, page 228. [8]
The Map guide to the census reports that the survey for the line dividing Kentucky and Tennessee was in error, but Kentucky accepted the erroneous Walker line in 1820; the boundary remained uncertain until a new survey in 1859. [9]
Marriage
William Hull and Elizabeth were probably married in or near Cumberland County, Kentucky where they resided in 1820. Several children were born in Kentucky in the 1820's. If Elizabeth is not the mother of William's children, then Elizabeth may have married William in 1837 in AL.
The marriage date and record sourced in most ancestry trees for this family is transcribed as the marriage of William Hill and Betsy Lacky on 22 Jun 1837 in Lauderdale AL. However, over half of his children were born before 1837. [10]
