Biography

Mathew was born in 1835 in Monroe Virginia ^[1] In 1850 he was 15 and living in Greenbrier County, Virginia with his parents John and Sarah Humphries (assume spelling was the choice of census taker) ^[2] By 1860 he had a wife, Mary, and children Sarah and Thomas, still living in Greenbrier with parents and siblings ^[3] Mathew died in Abilene Texas in 1894 ^[4]

I received a trove of genealogical records from a second cousin, Patricia Friend Newman. She was diligent in her research and visited with many elderly relatives. She sites census records, bibles, interview, etc. I have verified much of her research and will continue to do so.
