Biography

Notables Project
Abraham Janssen is Notable.

Abraham Janssen van Nuyssen (ca. 1567 – 1632) was a Flemish painter, who is known principally for his large religious and mythological works, which show the influence of Caravaggio. He was the leading history painter in Flanders prior to the return of Rubens from Italy.[1]

He was one of the most well known Flemish artists of the 17th century - next to Reubens.[2][3]

After the untimely death of his father Jan Janssen in 1584 , who was probably coming from Liège (Luik , Belgium) and just a knives seller , it must have been the financial support of his stepfather, the schoolmaster Assuerus Boon that made Abrahams Italy trip (ca. 1597- ca. 1601/02 ) possible. As a teacher and co-author of textbooks modern languages , Boon formed a vital link in the course of Antwerp merchants with international trade networks [4]

About his name and parents

Hahaha yes that's also why I asked :P But well I'm fine leaving him attached, indeed we don't want have him maybe attached to some other wrong lineage, when I have some spare time (not much of that nowadays ;) ) I'll see if I can do something for him, till than we better leave him here , with the note .
posted by Bea (Timmerman) Wijma
Hi Bea, unless we can find any real family for him to connect to, we might want to simply leave him connected here, rather than loose from the big tree.

Although it would be best if real family could be found. But I don't have the time or skill to do so.

If we cut him loose, then somebody with even less skill will surely come along and re-create the bogus links, based on the false genealogies that are out there. So I would rather not have to go through all this again with a bunch of new false duplicate profiles.

But then that contradicts what I suggested to do below, so I don't know :)

A lot of these online genealogies seem to be what many of these lineages are based on, some things are right but many things aren't so I'll check this lineage and see if I can find some real sources for this lineage. (when I'm back from Holiday :) )

I think that Geni also claims the Lodewyck first marriage, so that information is definitely out there floating around.

The Joris Rapalje is no doubt bogus, but I did not merge it away because it has an exact date that might belong to something related to the Lodewyck.

But this famous artist should certainly be separated from all these false relatives.

Abraham Janssen only married Sara Goetkint in 1602, these parents he now is attached to, for sure are not his parents .. and I don't think he is related to any of the Rapalje family either, his now brother is probably the Joris Jansz Rapalje who married Catalyna Jeronimus Trico 21 januari 1623 te Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands. When he was 18 years of age according this genealogy online (not the most reliable source of course but guess (unfortunately) this is what many of these lineages are based on)
posted by Bea (Timmerman) Wijma
You are correct, he is NOT related to the Rapalje family. There's a popular fabrication that arose with the popularity of internet genealogy. Abraham and Sara are real people, but the rest of the people that are linked on this page are all a part of the Jerome Holgate fabrication.
