Biography
John Stockbridge and Ruth Joyce were married on 14 November 1816 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. By Rev. Samuel Allen. Ruth Joyce, daughter of James Joyce and Mary Staples, was born on 19 August 1788 in Deer Isle, Hancock County, Maine, USA. She died on 15 January 1858 at the age of 69 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. She was buried in Rose Hill cemetery, Atlantic.
John Stockbridge and Ruth Joyce had the following children:
- i. Benjamin Stockbridge
- ii. John Stockbridge II
- iii. James Stockbridge was born on 24 March 1819 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. He died on 3 April 1847 at the age of 28 in Bellevue Hospital, New York, New York, USA. Dr. Small's book says Mr. Stockbridge died in 1843 aged 25. Taken ill while aboard ship in NY harbor.
