Biography

Ростислав I (Kiev) Киевский has Slavic Roots.

Rostislav Mstislavich, son of Mstislav I "the Great" Vladimirovich Grand Prince of Kiev and his first wife Christine of Sweden, became Prince of Smolensk on the death of his paternal grandfather in 1125.

The name of his wife is unknown. They had eight children:

  1. Roman, Grand Prince of Kiev
  2. Elena, married Kazimierz of Poland
  3. Sviatoslav, Prince of Novgorod
  4. David, Prince of Novgorod
  5. Agafia
  6. Rurik, Prince of Ovruch
  7. Agrafena
  8. Mstislav.

He died on 14 March 1168 in Zaruba and was buried in Kiev.
