Biography

Henry Kitchen, son of Henry Kitchen and Elizabeth Jewell, was born about 1782 at Amwell Township, Hunterdon, New Jersey. He moved to New Brunswick with his father, a Loyalist, mother and siblings around 1783. Henry married Polly Hearsey on 3 Aug 1800 in Sunbury County, New Brunswick, Canada [1].[2]

Henry Kitchen is an executor and beneficiary of his father’s Last Will and Testament in 1810:

New Canaan, Queens County, Millwright. Will dated 15 May 1809, proved 18 July 1810. Wife Jane what the Law allows her. Daughter Mary WELPLE (WHELPLEY?) £5. Sons Henry KITCHEN and William KITCHEN residue of estate. Sons Henry and William KITCHEN executors. Witnesses: Seth BRYANT, Donald McDONALD, Alexander McDONALD. Inventory, dated 4 August 1810, valued at £154 by Silvanus BROWN, Elias CLARK Junr. and Donald McDONALD.[4]

Henry Kitchen received a grant of 1200 acres of land at Sheffield, Sunbury on 20 Feb 1812. There were three other names on the grant: HARSEY, Ephraim 1200 acres; ODELL, William 1200 acres; WILDS, Solomon 1200 acres.[5]

Henry Kitchen of Douglas, York County, New Brunswick died in February 1850:[6]

One day last week Henry KITCHEN of Douglas (York Co.) came to his death by a sled running over him, after which accident he survived but a few hours. About twelve months ago his brother, Capt. KITCHEN, while driving the same cattle, yoked to the same sled and within a short distance of the same spot, met his death in precisely the same manner - Fredericton Reporter.
