Silas was born December 19, 1764 in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts Bay, the son of Luke Knowlton and Sarah Holland. Note that the Vermont Vital record claiming Silas was born in Newfane, Vermont is an error. Silas was nine years old when the family left Shrewsbury and settled in Newfane.
Silas married Sally Holbrook about 1786 probably in Newfane, Vermont.
Silas is found in the 1790 U.S. Census of Newfane, Vermont.
In 1796 Silas received a grant of 5 lots in Stukely, Lower Canada (now southern Quebec). He left Newfane and settled in Stukely in 1798. Silas would receive a grant of an additional 1000 acres in 1800 and other land in 1802.
Silas is found in the 1825 Lower Canada Census in Stukely, Sutton, Richelieu, Quebec, Canada and in the 1842 Census of Canada East in Stukely, Shefford.
According to the Stocking History, Silas passed away in 1843 or 1844, likely in Stukely, Canada East.
