Biography

"John Lawrence, styled in all evidences Generosus, was living at Ramsey in Huntingdonshire, where his uncle, John Lawrence de Wurdebois, had been Abbat since 1508. He left three children; William Lawrence, afterwards of Saint Ives; Emma, who married Gabriel Throckmorton, of Ellington in Huntingdonshire, third son of Richard Throckmorton, of Higham Ferrers, seneschal of the Duchy of Lancashire , and Agnes, who married Gilbert Smyth, of Fenton."[1]
"John died 1538, was buried in the Abbey of Ramsey, and bequeathed by his will (registro Dingley) beside considerable donations for masses in honour of the five wounds, to the poor, to churches, roads, &c. two of his best mares to my Lord of Ramsey for his trouble in being the supervisor of his will."

Research Notes

John has previously been shown on WikiTree as son of Sir James Nichols of Ashton, Lancashire and Eleanor Welles. This is incorrect. James and Eleanor did have a son called John, but he died at the Battle of Flodden Field in 1513, and his IPM the next year shows that he had no male heirs and that his estate passed to a collateral member of his family, Lancelot Lawrence.[2]

Genitree shows Robert as father of John Lawrence. since they seem to have updated their info in April 2022 - thought it may be helpful for you to check it out

The mother, Cecily, named in the biography accords neither with what is shown for relationships on WikiTree nor with Douglas Richardson's Royal Ancestry. Both of these give his mother as Eleanor Welles. See Douglas Richardson, Royal Ancestry, Vol. III, pp. 308-309, HOO 14. According to what is currently on WikiTree, Eleanor was second wife of John's father James.

I've removed the references to her from the bio. Thanks Michael.
There is a discussion, started two days ago, in soc.genealogy.medieval. https://groups.google.com/g/soc.genealogy.medieval/c/d5E12Y5S1N4 Some useful and well-sourced information has emerged, which looks likely to lead to a need to correct some relationships here on WikiTree. I will give this discussion longer, as further well-sourced information may be produced, and then consider what should be done on this and connected profiles.

It has become clear from research in the soc.medieval.genealogy discussion that this profile errs in showing John, father of the children shown her, as having parents Sir James Lawrence of Ashton, Lancs and Eleanor Welles. James and Eleanor did have a son John, but he died at Flodden in 1513 and his IPM the next year shows that he had no male heirs, and his estate passed to a collateral branch of the family: see John Gough Nichols, "The Herald and Genealogist", Vol. VIII, R C Nichols and J B BNichols, 1874 - abstract (in Latin) of the IPM at pp. 217-219, https://archive.org/details/heraldgenealogis08nich/page/216/mode/2up. I am detaching the parents and adding a research note.

Lawrence-3956 and Lawrence-922 appear to represent the same person because: from biographies it would appear these were intended to be the same person, mostly based on son.
