Hancock Lee was a Virginia colonist.

Hancock Lee[1] was born in 1653. He was the son of Richard Lee and Anne Constable. He passed away in 1709.

Lee represented Northumberland County in the Virginia House of Burgesses in 1688 and 1698.[2]

He married (first) in 1675. Mary, the only daughter of Colonel William Kendall; and (second) Sarah, daughter of Colonel Isaac Allerton, of Westmoreland.

Children: William, born prior to 1682, died young and without issue before 1706; Anna, prior to January 5, 1682, and was living as late as October 1754 married William Armistead; Richard born August 18, 1691; (by the second marriage): Isaac, 1707, died in England in 1727; John, born probably in 1709, died August 11 1789; Hancock, mentioned below; Elizabeth, born 1711, married Zachary Taylor. The second daughter, Ann has also now been proven. A very well-written article by James R. Hancock, using primary documents, has solved the question of Anna and Anne Lee.[3] He shows they are two different women, half-sisters.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Hancock by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Hancock:

Can someone from the project take a look at the children attached to this profile. There are no sources to support Mary Lee (Fearne), who's birth was apparently altered to make her "fit" (I've set a merge for her) and Issac [sic] has a transcribed will on his profile naming his mother Sarah Lee but he's attached to Mary Kendall. Thanks, Honi

Thanks for your note, there are/were numerous issues with the children attached....I am slowly working through the issues. I believe the children are now correct as attached.

Lee-36847 and Lee-859 appear to represent the same person because: they share similar vital statistics and the same daughter Anne.

From the book "Virginia's Northern Neck, a pictorial history" by John C. Wilson, 1984: "Ditchley, in lower Northumberland County on Dividing Creek, was first established in 1686 by Hancock Lee, probably on an old Indian site that later became known as Graveyard Point. The spacious, two-story home there now (pictured) - or at least nearby - was built in 1752-62 by Kendall Lee, grandson of the founder." Noland 588.

Martha Thompson Taylor (Thompson-640) should be removed as a wife of Hancock Lee. IF Martha was born about 1679 she was too young to have been Hancock Lee's first wife. Martha married James Taylor II in 1699 a year before Hancock Lee married his second wife Sarah Allerton. Martha was married to James Taylor II until James' death in 1729 which was 20 years after Hancock Lee's death. There are no records or sources that show Martha was ever married to Hancock Lee and records indicate that Hancock Lee was only married to Mary Kendall Lee and Sarah Allerton Lee.

The note about serving in the confederacy (nor the one elsewhere about 1812) make no sense in view of the date of death (which is given here as both 1709 and 1729).
