Research Notes

Thomas Lee is not the son of the John Lee in this profile. Thomas Lee look at the members of his family on this profile. All of them are born over in the 19th century. They are also not living in the area normally associated with this line of the Lee family.

The Mary referenced above is often confused with a Mary Ball who was born on September 19, 1750, in Westmoreland, Virginia. She was the daughter of William and Laetitia Ball. This Mary married Reginald Graham on April 3, 1774, in Virginia. Mary died on October 10, 1804, in Fauquier County, Virginia, at the age of 54.

However, based on the marriage records above, John Lee married his wife in December 20, 1749. Which is before the birth of the Mary Ball the daughter of William and Laetitia Ball.

John & Mary (Smith) Lee had no children. Here is the will of John Lee: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-89PX-NSSH?i=767&cat=399056 Westmoreland Co. Deeds & Wills Book 14, p. 412-415. The John Lee, Jr. he names is the one who married to his wife's sister Susannah (Smith) Lee, son of Philip Lee (John has no profile).

Here is the will of Mary (Smith) Ball-Lee-Smith (3rd married Maj. John Smith after John Lee died per the folks who manage Geo. Washington papers at National Archives http://financial.gwpapers.org/?q=content/smith-mary-smith-ball-lee). Mary mentioned no children or grandchildren of her own, and bequeathed her estate to her surviving sister Susannah (Smith) Lee, of Essex Co., and Susannah's children/orphaned grandchildren. All the remainder, including money, was to go to her named executor, Susannah's son Baldwin M. Lee. That will is here: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-99PX-FGSG?i=423&cat=399056 Westmoreland Co. Deeds & Wills Book 20, p. 418.

Additionally, the will of John Lee, her dec'd 2nd husband, had bequeathed these slaves after her death to one nephew, Maj. Gen. "Lighthorse" Henry Lee, who had sold them to Thomas Rowand. Lee-5768 and Lee-890 are not ready to be merged because: Hello

I am unable to merge at the moment so i shall set as unmerged match until approval regards Danielle

Lee-5768 and Lee-890 appear to represent the same person because: dates are similar, wife has same name, marriage on 5768 picked up the first date of a range, so marriage date can be either date, neither is sourced.
