Note
There are two Jacob Leedys who lived at the same time about which many Ancestry.com family trees are confusing information.
Jacob B. Leedy (1791-1861) son of Abraham Leedy
Jacob Leedy (1794-1862) son of John W. Leedy
Jacob B. Leedy was born 2 Jan 1791 in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. On 30 Mar 1813 he married Susannah Study at Morrison’s Cove, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. They moved to Knox County, Ohio, in Sep 1814 where they remained the rest of their lives. Susannah died on 10 Dec 1848, and Jacob married a second wife, Catharine Sience, on 19 Oct 1849 in Ashland, Ohio. It is not known if “Sience“ was her maiden name or from a previous marriage. Catharine is in the 1850 and 1860 censuses with Jacob and his children, living in Berlin, Knox County, Ohio. Jacob B. Leedy’s religion was Dunkard.
The other Jacob Leedy was born 18 Jul 1794 in York County, Pennsylvania. He lived his entire life in Pennsylvania. In 1825 he married Catharine Houser Reed (Rieth) in Letterkenny Twp, Franklin Co, Pennsylvania. They raised their family of at least six children (John, William, Josiah, Leah, Jacob, and Nancy) in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and they are both in the 1850 and 1860 censuses together. The Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Mennonite Vital Records, 1750-2014, have a burial record for Jacob Leedy and his wife. They are buried in the Emanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, Upper Strasburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, USA. (Remember that Jacob B. Leedy was Dunkard, not Mennonite, and he had moved to Knox County, Ohio, where he died.)
The problem is that many family trees are assigning Catharine Houser Reed (Reith) as wife to the Jacob B. Leedy b. 1791 instead of her husband, Jacob Leedy b. 1794.
