"Dame Jane Gerarde of Bromley in the countie of Staff" as she styled herself, made her last will and testament on 20 November, 1575, in which she names as executors her son Sir Thomas Gerarde, knight, her brother Sir Peter Legh knight, her son-in-law Robert Charnock, her cousin Henry Eccleston, esquires, and her trusty servant, Edmund Allat, leaving bequests to:[2]
her son Sir Thomas Gerard knight;
her daughter-in-law Dame Elizabeth Gerard;
her son's children;
Margaret Tarbocke, niece of Jane's son Tarbocke;
Frances Tarbocke, niece of Jane's son Tarbocke;
her brother, Sir Peter Legh knight;
her cousin Henry Eccleston;
her brother George Legh;
her son-in-law Robert Charnocke;
her sister Ellen Standley;
her sister Elizabeth Downes;
her sister Ales Rowley;
and others.
