Biography

The History of Parliament biographer of Henry Baynton makes his 2nd wife Isabel a daughter of Sir John Leigh of Stockwell, Surrey.[1] However, Richardson places her as a daughter of Sir John's younger brother, Ralph Leigh Esq, and his surprisingly posh wife Joyce Culpeper (mother by her 2nd marriage of Catherine Howard, Queen of England).

She married Sir Edward Baynton circa (?!) 18 Jan 1532 (ambiguous date). They had 2 sons (Henry Esq, and Francis) and 1 daughter (Anne).

Sir Edward died in 1544 and Isabel is credited with 2 further marriages, without issue.

Her 2nd husband was Sir James Stumpe, MP (she being his 2nd wife). He died in 1563.

Her 3rd husband was Thomas Stafford Esq of Bromham, Wilts, doubtless one of the Staffords.

She died on 16th February 1573.
