Richard Lennard, Lord Dacre was born in April 1596 in Herstmonceux Castle, Sussex, England, the son of Henry Lennard, 12th Baron Dacre and Chrysogna Baker, daughter of Sir Richard Baker, of Sissinghurst, co. Kent, by his second wife Mary Giffard, daughter of John Giffard.

Since his sister Barbara Lennard was born in Herstmonceus Castle, Richard Lennard was more than likely also born there.

First Marriage Richard married first Elizabeth Throckmorton, 3rd daughter and cohrss. of Sir Arthur Throckmorton, of Paulerspury, co. Northampton, by his wife Anne Lucas, daughter of Sir John Lucas, of Colchester, co. Essex, on July 14, 1617 in London, Middlesex, England. Elizabeth died perhaps in childbirth, she was buried 19 Feb 1621/22.

Second Marriage Richard Lennard married again on 4 January 1624/25 at St Giles Church, Cripplegate, London, England to Dorothy North, 1st daughter of Lord Dudley North, 3rd Baron North, by his wife Frances Brocket, daughter and cohrss. of Sir John Brocket, of Brocket Hall, co. Hertford.

  1. Richard Lennard bap 7 May 1626 at Herstmonceux, later Barrett-Lennard, of Horsford, co. Norfolk, and Belhouse, co. Essex.
  2. Catherine married Chaloner Chute the younger


The Lords Temporal — Members of Queens’ College, Cambridge, who have become Peers. 16th in the listing: Richard Lennard, 13th Lord Dacre (Queens’ 1611). 1596-1630. Son of Henry, 12th Lord Dacre (of the South) succeeded to the title in 1616.[2]

Richard died before 20th August , 1630 and was buried at Herstmonceux Castle, Sussex, England. [3]
