Biography

Anne (Lewis) Mosby is buried in the Mosby-Davis Family Cemetery, near the village of Burgin in Mercer Co., Ky - only part of her stone remains.

Anne was the youngest child of Joseph Lewis & his wife Elizabeth (?Pleasants?) Lewis - she married Robert Mosby & moved to Mercer Co., Kentucky where she died childless in 1811. She had inherited slaves from her parents whcih reverted back to her brothers and sisters at her death. In Mercer County Court are filed a string of Powers of Attorney from those siblings and/or their heirs. These POA's outline many of the descendants of Joseph & Elizabeth Lewis of Goochland.

(Joseph Lewis will was probated in Goochland County, Virginia, 20 Oct 1783 and re-recorded in Mercer County, Kentucky June Ct 1812 , Deed Book 8, page 265. The slaves left to his daughter Anne Lewis Mosby who left no child were to be distributed to brothers and sisters or their heirs as under the will of Joseph Lewis of Goochland)


Anne Cocke, another daughter of Mary LEWIS; m. James COCKE, Jr , married David Mosby and also moved to Mercer County, Kentucky with her guardians - her mother's sister Anne (Lewis) Mosby & her husband Robert Mosby.[1]
