I am leaving the original research information here for now as a cautionary tale. Once again, a person may or may not have been fit into a family line just because it look great and it might be. However, with proper research, It fell apart.
While the spouse is correct, I could find nothing else to back up the claims in this "research"
I am correcting what I can,
This biography was originally created in 2012 and since that time has been merged and information added to it by a number of individuals. It is possible with the merge that took place several years ago this biography became a conflation of two different individuals. A new biography for the correct Philip Lightfoot III son of Philip Lightfoot II and Mary Armistead needs to be created or the incorrect information removed from this biography.
Philip Lightfoot IIi son of Philip Lightfoot II and Mary Armistead was born about or before 1724, as Philip III was appearing in York county, Virginia court records in 1745 as the administrator of the estate of Theophilus Pugh's estate, which means Philip III would have to be at least 21 years of age or older. NOTE: in the Virginia records Philip Lightfoot (II) is listed as Elder or Senior and Philip Lightfoot (III) is listed as Junior.
The following York county, Virginia court record shows Philip II and Philip III involved in a suit in 1745. The Philip listed as Junior could not be Philip II as his father Philip died in 1708. The Philip listed as Junior in this record is Philip III. The records appears as follows: "At a Court held for York County the 17th day of February 1745 . . . Philip Lightfoot of the Town and County of York Esq. Plt ag'st [This is Philip II] Philip Lightfoot Jun'r [This is Philip III]Adm'r & of Theophilus' Pugh Dec'd Deft} In Debt upon Bond - This day came the parties by their attornies and the said Deft saith that he cannot gainsay the Plaintifs action therefore the Pltfs assent it is considered by the Court that he recover against the Defendt two thousand and fifty three pounds ten shillings and six pence half penny the Debt in the Declaration mentioned and his costs by him in this behalf expended to be levied of the goods and chattels of the Decedent when sufficient thereof shall come to the hands of the said Defend't to be administered. But this Judgment is to be discharged by the paiment of five hundred eighty nine pounds sixteen shillings and three pence three farthings together with interest for the same to be computed after the rate of five per centum per annum from the fourth day of November 1745 to the time of payment and the costs."[1]
There are no records to show that Philip Lightfoot III lived in Antigua for about ten years. There are no records to show Philip Lightfoot III lived in Burke County, Georgia, and it is known from the records of York County, Virginia that Philip Lightfoot III was deceased before the 31st of July, 1747, so he did not die in Burke County, Georgia in 1787.
Philip Lightfoot III, son of Philip Lightfoot II and Mary Armistead was deceased before his father his made his will on the 31st of July 1747. Philip II leaves the following bequest to Philip III's widow. The will reads in part as follows: ". . . I give & bequeath unto the widow of my son Philip Lightfoot one thousand pounds current money to be paid her (if not before) soon after my death in full of any dower she might expect from the lands designed my said son. . . . declaring this to be my last will and testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this thirty first day of July 1747. [signed] Phil Lightfoot (L.S.) Signed sealed published and declared by the testator to be the last will and testament of the testator /with the interlineations made by his own hand/ in the presence of Edmund Tabb, John Amson, Richard Copley
The other error in the biography for this Philip Lightfoot III is the list of ". . . Half Siblings on mom's side: Charles R.i. Morehead, Joseph Morehead, Alexander Morehead, Elizabeth Brixstraw Rixey, Samuel Morehead, Presley Morehead, The biography of Mary Armistead list a distuted marriage to a John Morehouse, not Morehead. The disputed marriage section from Mary's biography reads as follows: "This Mary Armistead has been previously listed as a wife of John Morehouse/Moorhouse. Mary has been removed as a wife of John Morehouse/Moorhouse as Mary was never married to him, :Links: http://www.ronulrich.com/rfuged/fam01098.htm
Mary's will and the two codicils to her will names her children by James Burwell and her children by Philip Lightfoot. Mary names her grandchildren, and great grandchildren from her children of her marriages to James Burwell and Philip Lightfoot. No Morehead children or grandchildren are mentioned in her will."
Further the dates of birth given for these listed half Morehead/Morehouse siblings as taken from the link: http://www.ronulrich.com/rfuged/fam01098.htm are as follows:
Philip Lightfoot III can not possibly be a half sibling to these Morehouse/Morehead individuals, as Philip's mother married Philip Lightfoot II about 1721 and was married to him until his death sometime after he made his will on the 31st July 1747 and before his will was proved in court on the 20th June, 1748. Mary Armistead Burwell Lightfoot was married to Philip Lightfoot II during the time period when 5 of these Morehouse/Morehead children were born, and Mary was about 53 years of age when the last Morehouse/Morehead child Presley was born ca. 1749.
The children listed for this Philip Lightfoot III are not correct, simply based on the places of birth.

Removing the things that are known to be wrong with the biography (1) the name of the parents, (2) the designation "III" as part of his name (3) the names of the siblings and (4) incorrect information in the biography, does not mean you or anyone else can not continue to research for years to come this Philip Lightfoot to locate information on his parents, siblings, etc.
The date of birth for the Philip listed is 1728, and Philip Lightfoot son of Philip Lightfoot II was born before 1724 based on him being listed in the court records of York County, Virginia on the 17th of February, 1745 as administrator of the estate of Theophilus' Pugh dec'd (York county, Virginia Wills and Inventories (1740-1746) page 412; https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS9H-DHZK-6) Philip Lightfoot III would have been at least 21 years of age or older in 1745 to have acted as administrator of an estate. The 1728 year of birth shown for this Philip means he was only 17 years old in 1745, and could not have acted in court as the administrator of an estate.
The marriage of this Philip Lightfoot is listed as 1748. Philip Lightfoot III son of Philip Lightfoot II was married well before 1747 when his father made his will. Philip Lightfoot III was the father of Francis Lightfoot who is named in the will of his grandfather, so he was born at least a year or more before 1747. Francis Lightfoot is the only known son of Philip Lightfoot III, and this Francis Lightfoot is believed to have been deceased before 1751 when his grandmother Mary Lightfoot made her will as he is not named as a grandson in her will, when she named her other living grandchildren.
Please consider removing the "III" designation, parents, siblings and incorrect information in the biography. This would require the least changes as the current dates of birth and death, wife and children would not have to be changed as this is not the issue IF we consider this Philip Lightfoot is not the son of Philip Lightfoot-245. If we leave him as the son of Philip Lightfoot-245 then we have to change the dates and places of birth and death, remove the wife, and all of the children, including the Francis Lightfoot listed as the son of this Philip Lightfoot as he is listed as being born 1750 in Antigua. Thanks

In short, Phillip Lightfoot III is a cartoon version of the short lived son of Philip Lightfoot II. He has had his lifespan artificially extended by many decades.
What was the purpose of artificially extending his life? It's this: He could "become" the father to ancestors in the Lott family. One of those ancestors is a real person; my 5th great grandmother, Martha Jane Lott. The other is an apocryphal person named Sarah "Sallie" Lightfoot, wife of John(3) Lott. They were supposed to be sisters.
Please see my comments on the matter in the profile of Martha Jane Lott. https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Lightfoot-249&errcode=saved
And see my comments in the profile of John(3) Lott for story of how Sallie (surname unknown), wife of John(3) Lott became a Lightfoot: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Lott-4
I suspect that material that appears in the somewhat useful but frustrating book Calling All Lightfoots played a part in this "enthusiastic" research effort. [To be clear this book is copyright 2003, but I think this material was floating around long before this book was published, as it had been collected many years before by Edith Williams.]
There's an isolated entry on p 56 for a certain Philip Lightfoot (son of ???, father of ???) who spent some time in Antigua. This was taken, I believe, as a clue that Philip, son of Philip Lightfoot II, didn't actually die before his father but instead left Virginia. And maybe was disinherited? So he doesn't show up in his father's will?
Is there any real reason to identify this Antigua dwelling Philip Lightfoot with the son of Philip Lightfoot II? No. But why not do it anyway? Just for fun.
The upshot is that the apocryphal Philip Lightfoot III was born, and appears all over Ancestry.com, Geni, FamilySearch, etc. He's also known here and there as Phillips Lightfoot III, Phillips Lightfoot IV, and Col. Phillip H. Lightfoot.
It's a longer and more complicated story than I'm presenting. Like Santa or Alfred E. Newman, Philip Lightfoot III is the result of a group effort over time. And he's been around for more than twenty years, so his reality feels very solid.
People have innocently put him in their family trees, and other people have used those family tree entries to do the same. For twenty years. Deep roots.
There's more material in CAL on pp 60 and 61 that may have been an influence in his birth. A Philip Lightfoot Jr. and Philip Lightfoot III are mentioned on p 61, and a Margaret Susannah Lightfoot on p 60.
So Margaret Susannah Lightfoot became the daughter of Philip Lightfoot III. Later an apocryphal person, Susannah (Smith) Lightfoot, was invented to be his his wife... because, why not?
Susannah (Smith) Lightfoot is based on a real person. Her real name was Susannah (Smith) Lee: https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Smith-281474
I've already removed Philip Lightfoot III and Susannah (Smith) Lightfoot (actually Susannah [Smith] Lee) from the profile of Martha Jane Lott, my 5th Great Grandmother. I'd rather not take any further steps myself, but let other people do other corrections.
But as it is, the Family Tree of the historically important Philip Lightfoot II is screwed up here on WikiTree.
In addition, on Ancestry.com Philip Lightfoot III has partially usurped the identity of Philip Lightfoot Jr. of Gloucester County; the Revolutionary War Veteran and grandson of Philip Lightfoot II. But we can't do anything about that.

But goodbye to all that. Truth is truth.

Perhaps including sources was too tedious. I wonder if this book might be in copyright infringement.

I've also seen him named as "Phillips Lightfoot IV." The legend that he lived in Antigua for some time and that his daughter Martha Jane (Patsy) Dorsey Lightfoot (aka Martha Jane Lightfoot Lott) may have been born in Antiqua may have arisen from a privately published book: Lott families of wiregrass Georgia : a genealogy of John and Elizabeth (Joyner) Lott descendants https://www.worldcat.org/title/lott-families-of-wiregrass-georgia-a-genealogy-of-john-and-elizabeth-joyner-lott-descendants/oclc/28248704/editions?referer=di&editionsView=true
My working hypothesis is that family legends have been garbled over the years and that this supposed "Philip Lightfoot III" is actually the grandson of Phillip Lightfoot II, through William Lightfoot. In other words, Philip Lightfoot Sr. -https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Lightfoot-250.
This sentence appears in the notes in this profile: There is a Collection of papers on him at William and Mary.
Those notes actually belong to: "Philip Lightfoot of Culpeper County, Virginia [who] served as a lieutenant in the Continental Army Artillery from 1778-1781. He was commissioned as lieutenant in the Virginia militia and as captain in the 8th U. S. Infantry Regiment. His heir [Philip Lightfoot, Jr.] put in a claim for his Revolutionary War service pension in 1831." https://scrcguides.libraries.wm.edu/repositories/2/resources/8758
Of course Philip Lightfoot of Culpeper County cannot be the father of Martha Jane Lott, because it is well known that he had only one child, Philip Lightfoot Jr.
Further, Martha Jane Lott's connections to Susannah and all siblings noted in this profile are suspect. (See my comments in the profile for Susannah Smith.) More garbled family history, I'm afraid. An effort to connect the Lott family to a Lightfoot ancestor.

P.S. I haven't worked on this family for quite a long time, so I'll leave it to you & other Lightfoot descendants.
