Biography

|
Alexander (Livingston) Livingston of Phildes is a member of Clan Livingstone.
European Aristocracy
Alexander Livingston was a member of the aristocracy in Scotland.

Alexander Livingston was the second son of Sir James Livingston,[1] 1st Lord Livingston of Callendar, and his wife, a lady named Marion. He was born about 1436 and likely when his father was Captain of Stirling castle, although the date of birth is not confirmed in source material.[2] Although there is some doubt about the lineage of the family there can be no doubt that his mother was Marion, as it will be his son that inherits the title and thus was definitely legitimate.

In an indenture made at Edinburgh on 6 July, 1445 between the honourable and worshipful "Sir Alexander of Levingstoun of the Calenter, knicht, and James of Levingstoun, son and ayre to the said Sir Alexander, and capitane of Striveline, conjunctly and severally on the ta parte, and Walter of Ogilby of Beufurde, on the tother parte," who agreed that "Cresteane of Erskyn, the dochter and ayr of umquhile Sir John of Erskyn of Kynnoule, knicht," was to be freely delivered to James of Levingston, at the "castel of Striveline" or in the "castel of Mefl'aine" by Walter, before the nativity of Our Lady next, and "Cristiane" was to be married with James, son and heir to James of Levingstone, and if "God forbede" James the son deceased with the "marriage unfullfullit," Cristiane was to marry Alexander, the second son and heir to James the "fadir", and so forth, while James the fadir had a living son or heir.[1]

This Alexander Livingston is often confused with others of his name, including his grandfather who died in 1451. He certainly married, although his wife's name has been lost, and he has, at least, one legitimate son; James Livingston, later 3rd Lord Livingston of Callendar. This is also noticed by the family historian, Robert Sewell.[3]

He died before his brother James Livingston, 2nd Lord Livingston of Callendar.

Only one DNA test is displayed on this profile. It takes two matching tests in order to confirm a relationship. What is the other test beside the one taken by Robert Livingston, kit #111381? How many markers do the two test takers share? Who is the most recent common ancestor (MRCA) of the two? I have changed the 'confirmed with DNA' entry to 'confident'. Please do not change it back to 'confirmed with DNA' until the required documentation is provided.

HI Kay - you would need to contact Sheri Sturm (Petersen-214) who made this change in the bio back in 2014. I assume that she has DNA evidence but I have no idea where or how she obtained it. She is the person responsible for a lot of the DNA comments in this line. I agree that this needs to be sourced,
