John Lockwood, son of John, married Abigail Morehouse, daughter of Gideon, on 8 February 1731/2 in Fairfield, Connecticut.[1]
John's father John died in 1735 or '36, and in the 1739 distribution his real estate, John, the proband, received 100 acres at Saugatuck River, 6 acres in the "homelot down the farms", 2+ acres of salt meadow, 2 acres of salt meadow at City of Troy, 9+ acres adjoining his brother Joseph at Long Lot, 12+ acres in the Great Pasture, 1+ acre in the New Pasture next to the Great Pasture, a partial right in the old barn, and 1/3 of 2/3s part in the upper division of Applegate's Long Lot & also of the commonage.[2]

John Lockwood of the town and county of Fairfield executed his last will on 13 February 1784, as witnessed by David Coley, Rhoda Lockwood and Hezekiah Lyon. He made bequests to:[3]
wife Abigail
to his living children, and grandchildren of his children deceased:
No mention is made of children Eleazer and Esther, living or dead, thus they must have predeceased their father without heirs.
His inventory was completed on 24 January 1785.[5]
John's remains were reputedly interred at the Colonial Cemetery, a.k.a. Lower Greens Farms, in Greens Farms, Westport, Connecticut,[6] though no stone for him has been found in the listings of the Hale Collection.[7]
John's estate papers provide some further information about his children. The estate had at least three administrators -- Abigail, the widow, Nathaniel Wheeler
In 1801, Albert Lockwood petitioned to be appointed executor of the estate with the will annexed, and a resulting summons was ordered for some of the heirs, including Anna Gray, widow of Eben'r Gray dec'd.[8]
A distribution of the real estate of John Lockwood was approved in Fairfield Probate Court on 23 April 1803, but was appealed to the Superior Court, on the matter of accounting for advancements the testator had made in his lifetime, and the distribution was thus set aside, until sd. advancemets be known by the probate court. Therefore, on 26 August 1804, the sheriff was ordered to notify John Lockwood, Anne Gray, Job Lockwood, Esther Lockwood, Eleazer Lockwood, Gideon Lockwood, Ebenezer Lockwood, Albert Lockwood and Nathan Wheeler Esq., all of the town of Weston, and Eli Perry & his wife Mary of Brookfield, Billy and Susan Finch his wife of Norwalk, to appear on 1 October next for discovery to the court of advancements made by the dec'd to his legatees and devisees.[9]Job, Esther Eleazer and Ebenezer must be grandchildren. The relatioton to Nathan Wheeler isn't clear, but he was the final executor of the estate with the will annexed.[10]
A resulting accounting of advancements to the heirs, recorded 9 October 1804 names Jabez Lockwood, now dec'd, John Lockwood, Ephraim Lockwood dec'd, Michael Lockwood, Samuel Lockwood dec'd, Gideon Lockwood dec'd, Albert Lockwood, Abigail Patchin, Anna Gray, Mary Perry, Elizabeth, and Susanna.[11] Since Abigail had not been summoned, she may have been deceased before the summons.
The distribution of 23 April 1803 is not found in the probate record (it may have escaped into the records of the Connecticut Superior Court), but scattered inventory records show that he held:
30 acres in the homestead where he last dwelt with a barn[12]
4 acres on the plain at the south end of the farm, given to John Lockwood son of said dec'd by deed of gift[13]
21:3:0 acres in Applegate's Long Lot -- 2 acres deeded by Abigail as executor to David Coley Jr. on 26 March 1798, 1 acre north of the third crop highway deeded by her to Albert Lockwood on 23 July 1787, 1 acre south of the third crop highway deeded by her to Albert Lockwood on 23 July 1787, 7:1:0 acres deeded by her to Albert Lockwood on 27 March 1789, 0:2:0 acres deed by her to Albert Lockwood on 27 March 1789, 9 acres deeded by her to David Coley Jun'r on 17 April 1790.[14]
20 acres mortgaged by dec'd to Nath. Marsten, lying west of Albert Lockwood's (this seems likely also to be in Applegate's Long Lot, though it is not stated as such)[14]
There is controversy regarding some particulars of the Lockwood ancestry. Understanding the changes, if any, that needs to be made for this "Lockwood" line is necessary.
John was born in 1713. He passed away in 1784.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
The son Ephraim linked above is the wrong Ephraim since he signed his own will on 7 September 1805 so how could he have been deceased by 1784 when John wrote his will?
Daphne, Thank you. I removed the other wife, and made him the son of john. I also added, at the SAR link, instructions for finding membership #90269. It is available, and it confirms what you have said.
the Jacobus paper doesn't really pertain to this nuclear family
re: the SAR membership app is in error -- the John Lockwood who died in 1787 in Norwalk is a different person, not the husband of Abigail Morehouse. John Lockwood who d. 1787 in Norwalk has his own estate files here. He apparently died intestate, but distr. shows his heirs.
