Biography

Isabel (or Elizabeth) Ligon (or Lygon) was born about 1562, in Kingsgrove, Gloucester, England.

Isabel's father was Henry Lygon and her mother was Elizabeth Berkeley

Isabel was a legatee in her father's 1577 will.

She married Edward Bassett (abt.1558-bef.1602), gentleman of Uley, co. Gloucester, and son of William Basset of Uley and Highfield, co. Gloucester, and Jane, daughter of John Ashe (or Asshe), Esq.

They had 4 sons, William, Esq., Barnaby, Edward, and Giles, and 4 daughters. Elizabeth (m. William Clayfield, Gent and Thomas Poyntz, Gent), Margery (or Margaret; m. Samuel Shellom), Susanna (m. Michael Dorney), and Jane (Bassett) Deighton (abt.1586-1631) (m. John Deighton). Edward Basset left a will 3 Jun 1601, proved 5 Nov 1602, and she m. (2; as his 2nd wife) Rice Davis, Esq. of Tickenham, Somerset. [1]
