Research notes

Research undertaken by the genealogist Gilles Brassard and published in July 2018 in his online blog Conversations avec mes ancêtres refutes the claim that Marguerite was the daughter of Geneviève Rolland.[1] He shows that Geneviève was known with certainty to be married to Philippe Brunel between 1559-1575, and as she was supposed to have been his widow when she married Jean Macé, the marriage could not have taken place before 1575 at the earliest. However that late a date would not allow her to be the mother of this Marguerite Macé, whose own son Jean Petitpas was born circa 1579.

Further, from Parisian notarial records Brassard was able to name Jean Macé's wife as Catherine Chaudière[2] and reconstruct their family of nine children, including Marguerite the wife of Jean Petitpas as well as a son Barthelemy noted in earlier studies of the family to be a brother of Marguerite. From the sources Brassard shows that Marguerite and her husband Jean Petitpas were both deceased before May 1591 when her brother Jacques' estate was divided.

The 28 April 1615 date for Marguerite's death does not appear to be included in any of the sources listed. A citation for her death should be included if there is one.
